Demographics

The demographics chapter contains statistical data and trends on the population of South Africa. These include breakdowns by age, race, and sex. The chapter also includes information on growth rates and projected growth rates for the entire population as well as provincial breakdowns of this information. Fertility rates, births, life expectancy, and the impact of HIV/AIDS are also presented. Statistics on urbanisation and municipal breakdowns also appear. Religious affiliation and language are examined. Migration, immigration, and emigration are also presented. The Human Development Index (HDI) is presented and compared with that of various other countries.
