Crime and Security

The Crime and Security chapter analyses all major and minor crime trends since 1994. Additional crime trends include farm attacks and murders, crimes against children under the age of 18, and international crime trends, crime in the taxi industry, and crimes where race is alleged to be a factor. There is a police section that includes a personnel profile of the South African Police Service, deaths of police, as a result of police action and in police custody. The chapter also looks at other aspects of the criminal justice system such as judges, courts, lawyers, and prisons. Finally the chapter looks at defense and private security.
