The Economy

The economy chapter gives an in-depth examination of the country’s economic indicators. The macro-economic profile of the country is analysed in some detail, with GDP growth and size (both current and historical) given, as well as GDP by province. Statistics on South Africa’s inflation and interest rates, again current and historical, are given. Other macro-economic indicators, such as the level of investment in the country, the historical exchange rate of the rand to major currencies, and South African trade statistics are also presented. Other issues covered include the budget, revenue, and taxation.
