Gerbrandt van Heerden

Gerbrandt is the Deputy Head of Research for the Centre For Risk Analysis (CRA). His responsibilities include writing and editing opinion columns, assisting with research reports and bespoke projects, and engaging with the media on topical news items.

In addition, he is the main author of a number of chapters in the CRA’s annual Socio-Economic Survey of South Africa.

Gerbrandt holds a Master’s in Political Studies from the North-West University.

The latest Macro Review, a report published by the Centre For Risk Analysis (CRA), details the current state of South Africa’s municipalities. It finds that most of South Africa’s municipalities are in serious financial trouble. They also lack the capacity to adequately deliver services, feeding into increased protest action, and negatively impacting investment and economic growth.
